LEAD STORY

Your help needed: Tri-Cities Central Awards

You’re probably familiar with local “best of” contests, and perhaps you’ve noticed that many of the same names win year after year.

That’s not to say those contests aren’t fun, valuable initiatives that provide nice visibility for local businesses. They’re great. But we want to try something different.

The inaugural Tri-Cities Central Awards will feature categories picked by readers, with a focus on the fun and unexpected over the usual ‘best pizza’ and ‘best coffee.’ We’ll select finalists based only on reader nominations. When it’s time to vote, only Tri-Cities Central subscribers can cast a ballot, one vote per person.

The goal is to highlight some lesser-known aspects of the area, based on input from the people who know this place best.

But first, let’s hear from you: what categories would you like to see? Some potential ideas include “best Fox River view,” “best place to take out-of-towners,” or “best dog-friendly patio.”

Plus a bunch more. You decide.

77 years of giving back — and YOUR chance to win big!

Since 1948, the Rotary Club of Batavia has turned community spirit into meaningful impact — reinvesting more than $1 million into the community through its annual raffle.

Now it’s your shot to win the $50,000 grand prize.

And if you buy a ticket before the $2,000 early bird drawing on Oct. 21, you get two chances to win, because that winner stays in the running for the grand prize drawing on Nov. 21. Three $1,000 runner-up prizes will be drawn too.

Every ticket helps Rotary support important local causes. Only 1,200 tickets will be sold. Put yourself in the mix today.

Your morning coffee deserves better

If you're still filling your mug with grocery store grounds, you don’t know what you’re missing.

Black Dragon Blend from Dragon Fire Coffee has been the local roaster's top seller for five years running (all 28 of its reviews are five stars). The medium-dark roast features notes of chocolate, ripe plum, and brown sugar that make a rich, bold cup.

Brew it in your drip machine, make espresso with it, or turn it into a latte. There’s a reason the regulars keep re-ordering this coffee time and again.
