The best routines are the ones you can’t wait to come back to.

There's often a moment at the end of a good yoga class when the room goes quiet. You feel a true sense of calm, and whatever was rattling around in your brain an hour earlier doesn't feel quite so stressful.

Co-founders Crystal and Andrew have spent more than 10 years building moments like that at Power Moves Yoga in St. Charles. And they have a special offer for anyone looking to start up a yoga routine this fall.

A new space with the same goal

In March, Power Moves relocated to a new facility at 110 S. 17th St. in St. Charles. The new space brought a therapeutic side to the business, something that stems from to the founders' original vision of putting recovery-focused therapies and yoga under one roof.

Alongside the yoga schedule, the studio now offers contrast therapy and float therapy, a form of sensory deprivation where you rest weightlessly in warm, heavily salted water.

The address may have changed, but the philosophy didn’t. The studio's guiding idea is that yoga isn't something to perform, it's something to live.

Find your class

With more than 30 classes a week ranging from beginner to advanced, there's a lot to choose from. Here's an overview:

  • Unheated classes: PMY Flow focuses on core strength, alignment, and balance. Yin & Yang splits class between flowing movement and slow, supported holds. Restorative uses props for long, deeply relaxing poses in a cool room. Mindfulness Meditation is a short class to steady your mind.

  • Heated classes: Power Vinyasa flows through postures in the 92- to 96-degree room. Fire works on core strength, balance, and flexibility for all levels. Hot Pilates Fusion blends Pilates, yoga, and strength work. Yoga Strength adds free weights and moves to the beat of the music.

New to yoga? The studio suggests starting with PMY Flow and graduating to Vinyasa once you're comfortable. If you'd rather go gentle, try Yin & Yang or Restorative.

Two weeks to make it stick

This fall, Power Moves is offering newcomers two weeks of unlimited in-person yoga for $40. It starts on your first visit, so you can try a hot class one day, a restorative session the next, and see what fits your week.

Two weeks is long enough to sample several classes and get a feel for the instructors. It's also long enough to see whether a few hours on the mat each week starts to feel less like a commitment and more like something you look forward to.

If it's your first time, plan to arrive 15 minutes early, introduce yourself to your instructor, and wear clothes you can move in. Bring water, plus a towel and mat (or rent them at the studio).
