Is it happy hour yet?

Quality happy hours are tough to track down in general, and Fridays are perhaps the trickiest.

But know this: if you're looking to cap off your Friday without overpaying for a beer, a cocktail, or a tasty app, you’ve got some enticing local options. Several spots across Batavia, Geneva, and St. Charles offer worthwhile Friday deals, and we've rounded up some good ones heading into the weekend.

As always, I recommend calling ahead if you’ve got your heart set on something — specials change, menu items sell out, etc. Enjoy.

🏡 The local real estate market is changing in some surprising ways

It’s rarely easy to fully understand what’s happening in local real estate, but making sense of today’s market requires even more unpacking than usual.

That’s why our friend and expert realtor Chris Wallace broke down last month’s Kane County data into a detailed, easy-to-digest report with numbers that are actually useful to you.

A few data points worth knowing:

  • 42% of homes sold last month closed above asking price

  • The current median list price is $425K

  • Median number of days on market was only 11 in March

Whether you're thinking about selling, still shopping, or just tracking what your home is worth, the full report is worth a few minutes.

🏡 There's a reason 10 million American homes trust this siding.

If you've ever repainted your siding, struggled to patch warped boards, or shooed woodpeckers away from your house — this one's for you.

James Hardie® fiber cement siding is the most installed siding brand in the country because it doesn't warp, it doesn't burn, and termites and woodpeckers want nothing to do with it.

That’s why locally-based 212° Construction Group recommends it to clients. The color is baked on at the factory (not painted) so it holds up against Midwest weather, and it just looks sharp. Like, noticeably-better-than-your-neighbors sharp.

💥 Brian and Chris from 212° have been leading jobs like this in the Fox Valley for over 30 years. Give them a call at (630) 777-0688 for a free consultation.

☑️ Downtown design dollars: Batavia MainStreet is offering $10K in grants to help downtown business and property owners fund exterior upgrades (like new signage and permanent public art) with first-round submissions due May 25.

☑️ Rides for everyone: The Bike Rack in St. Charles has been a local institution for 50 years, but many folks might not be aware of the team’s passion for building remarkable custom adaptive bikes for people with disabilities.

☑️ A place to gather: Gather Bakery on State Street in Geneva will celebrate its second anniversary on Sunday (5/3) with special deals on cookies, lemonades, chocolate eclair cake slices, and cookie decorating for the kids.

☑️ Bank debut: Earthmover Credit Union is opening a new branch on McKee Street in Batavia and marking the occasion with a grand opening celebration on Saturday (5/2) featuring a $1K cash giveaway, a flower bar, a coffee cart, and more.
