After initially raising concerns at a meeting last fall, several Fox Ridge Elementary parents used public comment at this week’s St. Charles School Board meeting to again share troubling stories about student safety, classroom disruptions, and what they described as slow or unclear communication from school leadership.
Many urged the board to step in more directly — and urgently.
Here’s what to know:
Safety incidents described: Several parents detailed alarming situations involving their children, including physical altercations between students, a gun threat, and supervision lapses during the school day.
Communication frustrations: Multiple parents said they felt information came reactively — after problems escalated — rather than proactively, leaving families confused about what happened, what steps were taken, and what safeguards were in place.
Calls for accountability: One parent said 57 families had signed onto a document calling for clearer safety protocols, consistent classroom expectations, and transparent communication.
District response: District leaders said administrators recently met with more than 20 Fox Ridge families and are reviewing those conversations alongside behavioral data, aiming to share revised action steps with the board in February. Some board members questioned that timeline as too slow.
Several parents made clear that they plan to keep attending meetings, while the board later moved into closed session that included student disciplinary matters.
Watch the full meeting recording (public comment begins at the 35-minute mark).
