The City of Geneva published a new project page on Friday for the Mill Race Residences PUD (planned unit development).
According to Shaw Local, the proposal is for the 4 E. State Street property which has been home to the historic blacksmith shop since the 1840s.
Here’s what to know:
The proposal itself: According to Shaw Local, Shodeen Group submitted a residential development proposal to the city on Sept. 16, which includes three five-story buildings with 84 residential units on just under two acres of riverfront property.
Impact on the 1843 blacksmith shop: The proposal suggests that the building’s stone walls would come down, but the stone itself would be repurposed to build a new structure.
Upcoming hearing: There is still an Oct. 15 hearing planned to address building maintenance code violations for the blacksmith shop, including more than $500,000 in fines that have accumulated for the property owner.
