The vacant Red Lobster on Randall Road could be coming down soon.
On Monday, the Geneva City Council approved a plan to replace the restaurant with a three-tenant building featuring Shake Shack and CAVA. During the Oct. 8 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, the developer said he wants to start demolition as soon as possible and plans to build through the winter.
He also said CAVA wants to begin building out its space by June 1, 2027.
Here’s what to know:
Leases are signed: The developer told commissioners the tenants’ leases are signed, contingent on city approval. He also said he faces late fees if he misses target delivery dates.
The first drive-thru: CAVA’s drive-thru would be the first in Geneva Commons, and the developer said it’s one of the first in the chain. Shake Shack decided against a drive-thru.
Bigger building, same footprint: The proposal calls for a new building at about 8,670 square feet, up from Red Lobster’s 5,455. It would have 92 parking spaces and a drive-thru lane that holds about 10 cars.
Plans show a third retail storefront that sits between Shake Shack and CAVA with about 2,400 square feet of usable space. That tenant has not yet been named.
