If you’re looking for a Thanksgiving weekend activity that doesn’t involve cooking or leftovers, this local gingerbread house contest may be for you.

Nonprofit Random Acts Matter is bringing back its Community Gingerbread House Contest & Display for a third year on Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Baker Community Center in St. Charles. Anyone can enter, and the event itself is free to attend.

Here’s what to know:

  • Anyone can build: Individuals, families, friend groups, and businesses are all invited to enter, and all skill levels are welcome. Homemade, kit, or store-bought builds are fine. It doesn’t even have to be a house, since any gingerbread structure counts.

  • Prizes on the line: Entries will be displayed at the event, and prizes will be awarded in several categories.

  • Come vote and hang: Stop by from 11AM-3PM at 101 S. 2nd St. to see the entries and vote for your favorites. The free event also includes live holiday music, free treats, and a visit with Santa.

The theme this year is “It’s Cool to be Kind.” Sign up and see full details.
