Thanks to the latest round of building repairs, Batavia students found upgraded playgrounds and entrances when they returned to classes last month.
But according to Batavia Public School District 101, more than $30 million in additional work still needs to be completed across several schools in the years ahead.
Here's what to know:
Recent work: H.C. Storm Elementary School got playground and entrance upgrades while Louise White Elementary School added a secure entryway to help staff manage visitors. These projects built on earlier repairs at H.C. Storm, J.B. Nelson, and Alice Gustafson.
An ongoing initiative: The district says these are part of Project Warm, Safe, Dry (WSD), a repair-focused plan the school board approved in December 2023 after voters rejected larger facilities proposals in 2022 and 2023. The district has completed or nearly completed about $26.5 million in capital work so far.
What's still coming: The district says aging heating and building systems still need replacing. J.B. Nelson, Batavia High School, Rotolo Middle School, and Alice Gustafson are top of the priority list for the next several years.
