Two years in, Batavia Hardwoods is throwing a party.

The McKee Street shop is hosting a spring open house on Saturday, May 2, with woodworking demos, food, and storewide discounts to mark the milestone.

Here's what to know:

  • When and where: Saturday, May 2 from 8AM to 3PM at 330 McKee St. in Batavia.

  • Live demos: Weather permitting, the Batavia Woodcarvers Club and the Windy City and Chicago Woodturning Clubs will run demonstrations throughout the day.

  • Discounts at the shop: 20% off woodturning stock, 10% off flat woodworking stock, and 10% off finished gallery pieces like bowls, cutting boards, charcuterie boards, and vases.

Food and drinks will be served at lunchtime while supplies last.

The shop is the result of what co-owner Doug Marsh has called a "happy accident" — a conversation with friends Steve Lusted, John Dillon, and Kersten Beer that turned a vacant space in the longtime Marsh Products building into one of the largest suppliers of turning stock wood in the Chicago area.

The four friends, most retired or semi-retired, sell flat stock lumber, turning stock for bowl makers, and finished pieces they craft themselves.

All four owners will be on-site to greet visitors at the May 2 event. Get more info at BataviaHardwoods.com or 630-761-5907.
