It’s starting to look like a proposal to close Walnut Avenue in downtown St. Charles for outdoor dining during the spring and summer months will move forward.

Following the latest discussion on Monday, the city’s Planning and Development Committee voted in favor of closing the street between Riverside Drive and Second Avenue. This would allow Flagship on the Fox to use the space for a patio and the Arcada Theater to use some of the remaining space for parking.

Several aldermen opposed the street closure, citing concerns over lost parking spaces and the lack of traffic studies or public engagement. One suggested exploring alternative locations like Cedar Street for outdoor dining spaces.

The issue will come up for a vote at a future council meeting, likely on April 15. If approved, the street closure would go into effect through October.
