The League of Women Voters of Central Kane County is using two special occasions to encourage more local voters to get registered before the November midterms.
National Voter Registration Day falls on Sept. 15, closely followed by Constitution Day on Sept. 17. The league has events planned around both.
Here's what to know:
Waubonsee registration push: The league is participating in the Waubonsee Community College Engagement Fair at the Sugar Grove campus on Sept. 9, then has a special Sept. 17 event timed to coincide with Constitution Day. Voter registrars from the elague will partner with the Quad County Urban League to assist WCC students with voter registration.
Oswego event: Eligible students at Oswego East High School can register to vote during lunch periods on Sept. 15. The league has run drives at the school since 2008.
Getting out the vote: According to LWVCKC, National Voter Registration Day launched in 2012 and has registered more than 6.5 million voters nationwide since then, drawing on partnerships across businesses, nonprofits, and civic groups.
With the midterms approaching, the league is pointing Kane County voters to its own site for registration basics, and suggesting residents visit the VOTE411 page as a nonpartisan resource for detailed candidate information as races take shape.
