Two significant cases in Kane County are moving toward possible plea agreements, with outcomes that could bring resolution to serious criminal charges. Here’s what local readers should know:

  • Marklund sexual assault case: Isaiah S. Fields, 23, is charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated criminal sexual assault of a resident with developmental disabilities at Marklund Hyde Center near Geneva. DNA evidence linked Fields to the victim, who gave birth in April 2023. A plea is anticipated on January 14.

  • St. Charles juman trafficking case: Martha P. Hurtado-Hernandez, 59, one of five people charged with trafficking and exploitation of women in 2023, may accept a plea deal by late February. Her case stems from a police investigation that rescued seven women from brothels linked to an organized crime syndicate.

Both cases involve Class X felony charges, carrying potential prison sentences of six to 30 years upon conviction.
