Up North Wine Tasting Room is planning to transition from its current home on 2nd Street in downtown Geneva into a bigger space on State Street this coming January.
The mother-daughter-owned business will take over the former Firewater BBQ space at 524 W. State St. and rebrand as part of the move.
Here's what to know:
New space, slightly new name: Cathy Humphreys and Amy Goedken said they are keeping the same Northern Michigan-inspired concept but adding more lounge space and updating the name to Up North Wine and Whiskey Lounge.
Menu details: The new Up North won’t operate as a restaurant, but it plans to offer light bites, dips, hummus, and similar snacks to go with the wine, cocktails, and whiskey drinks.
Location history: Firewater BBQ and Brew, a suburban chain known for ribs and slow-cooked meats, abruptly closed in July.
