St. Charles officials voted to add two new honorary street signs — one recognizing Colonel Edward J. Baker near a cluster of Baker-named landmarks, and another honoring a standout St. Charles East wrestler for a dominant state title run.
Here’s what to know:
Colonel Baker honored: The city advanced plans for an honorary sign for Colonel Edward J. Baker on North 4th Avenue, between East Main Street and Cedar Avenue — a block that sits between Baker Memorial Park and Baker United Methodist Church.
Wrestling champ recognized: City Council also recognized St. Charles East’s Dom Monado for his IHSA state championship at 120 pounds last season, announcing an honorary street sign will be installed in his name following his 52-1 season.
How the sign program works: Honorary signs can be approved up to five times per year (one per ward per year), must be sponsored by a ward official, and stay up for 20 years on a single block.
Watch for the Colonel Baker sign to go up soon — a city official said installation is expected within about a month if and when it is approved by City Council.
