According to the Daily Herald, Two Brothers Brewing has partnered with a suburban apartment developer on a 20-acre mixed-use project at the corner of Butterfield Road and Route 59 in Warrenville.
The proposed plans would relocate its Warrenville tap house — which is currently adjacent to Batavia’s Fermilab property — to a high-visibility spot on Route 59 and add residential, restaurant, and green space to the site.
Here's what to know:
The brewery stays: Under the proposal, the existing brewery operation remains in its current industrial park location. The new building would open each morning as a coffee-focused cafe before shifting to a full food and beer operation through the afternoon and evening.
Adding 180 apartments: The developer, which recently completed a project at Yorktown Center in Lombard, is proposing 180 units spread across nine two-story buildings. A large clubhouse would offer residents a range of indoor and outdoor amenities including recreational and fitness options.
A community green space: Plans call for an outdoor communal area west of the restaurant designed to host seasonal markets, concerts, and other community programming.
Don’t expect approvals soon: The developer expects to file a zoning application sometime this summer, which would trigger a public hearing process and, ultimately, a City Council vote.
Two Brothers co-founder Jason Ebel described the project as the realization of a long-term goal that was reshaped by the pandemic and the unexpected rise of the brewery's coffee roasting operation.
