Summer's basically here, and the area's pools are about to follow. Four of the five major pool facilities across Batavia, Geneva, and St. Charles open Saturday, May 23, with one more coming online in early June.

Here's what to know:

  • Hall Quarry Beach (Batavia): The sandy-bottomed swimming hole at 400 South Water Street opens May 23 with two new sand slides, plus the usual kids' flume, drop slide, diving boards, and sand volleyball. Hours run noon to 7PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and noon to 6PM the rest of the week, with twilight swim 5-7PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

  • Swanson Pool (St. Charles): St. Charles's community pool sits in Pottawatomie Park just north of downtown along the Fox River, and also opens May 23, running 11:30AM to 7:30PM over Memorial Day weekend. It has an easy-access activity pool with dumping buckets and a 50-meter lap pool with waterslides, drop slides, and a lily pad rope walk.

  • Otter Cove Aquatic Park (St. Charles): The St. Charles Park District's other aquatic center opens the same day, with a lazy river, four slides (including a “turbo freefall)”, a toddler pool, a splash park, and a sand volleyball court.

  • Sunset Pool (Geneva): Geneva's Sunset Pool opens at noon on May 23 and runs through Labor Day, September 7. Features include a spray ground, climbing walls, eight lap lanes, water slides, and a zero-depth area. Pre-season hours vary through June 1 before the regular summer schedule starts June 2.

  • Mill Creek Pool (Geneva): The lone latecomer, Mill Creek opens June 6 from 10AM to 7PM. It's smaller and family-focused, with a 25-meter lap pool, a zero-depth play pool with a water mushroom, and an interactive spray ground built for younger kids.

If you’re planning to get in some swim time early in the season, make sure to check the facilities’ website and social media channels, as opening hours can change unexpectedly due to the weather.
