If you're staying local for the Fourth of July, there's a solid lineup across the Tri-Cities and beyond. Batavia and St. Charles both host fireworks shows on July 4, North Aurora celebrates on July 3, and the Elburn Lions Club's annual show lands on July 11.
With America's 250th birthday this year, a few places are going bigger than usual. Here’s a list of fireworks shows and events happening throughout the greater Kane County area.

Batavia Fireworks and Sky Concert (July 4)
For America 250, Batavia is planning more food trucks than ever and an extra special ending to the annual Sky Concert. More details:
Location: Engstrom Park and the BHS practice fields between Main and Wilson
Schedule: Food vendors open at 5PM on Millview Drive; Batavia Community Band performs at 8:30PM; fireworks run from 9:30PM to about 10PM
Note: There will be a brief announcement and sponsor thank-you at 9:15PM before the fireworks begin

St. Charles Fireworks (July 4)
In honor of America's 250th birthday, St. Charles is promising an extra-big finale this year. Two viewing sites are open along the Fox River (Langum Park and Mt. St. Mary Park) with DJ entertainment and food trucks at both.
Locations: Langum Park and Mt. St. Mary Park
Best viewing: Downtown St. Charles, south of Main Street, along the Fox River
Red balloon trick: At 1PM, a red balloon will be raised over Langum Park — if you can see it, you'll have a good view of the fireworks
Seating: Both parks are open to foot traffic only; bring your own chairs or grab a picnic table (first come, first served)
Langum Park food: Snack Zone Concessions and Sweet Sensations, starting at 4PM
Mt. St. Mary Park food: Kona Ice, Hippie Gourmet Grilled Cheese Co., and Kissed by Fire BBQ, starting at 4PM
Entertainment: DJ at both parks from 6:30–9:30PM; glow novelty sales from 6–9PM
Fireworks: At dark
Restrooms and first aid: Available at both parks

North Aurora Fireworks (July 3)
North Aurora gets a jump on the holiday with its annual Independence Day Celebration at North Aurora Riverfront Park on Thursday, July 3.
Timing: Festivities start at 5PM; live music from 6–9PM; fireworks at approximately 9:30PM
Music: The Simple Remedy takes the stage — a band known for blending Americana, country, folk, rock, blues, and soul
Food vendors: Chkn Box (chicken wings), Royal Blue BBQ (barbecue and Cajun), King's Kuisine (smashburgers and gyros), and Kona Ice (shaved ice)
Bring your own: Attendees can bring their own food and drinks, including alcohol (no grills permitted)
Parking: Available at North Island Park and several Village lots near State Street; see the village website for the full list of restrictions and details

Elburn Fireworks (July 11)
The Elburn Lions Club hosts its annual fireworks show at Lions Park on Saturday, July 11, with a rain date of July 12.
Key times: Park will open at 7PM and the show is expected to begin at about 9:30PM
Concessions: The Lions and Leos food tents will both be on-site; alcoholic drinks are available inside the clubhouse only (no alcohol on park grounds)
Parking: Free on the west side of Lions Park; a free-will donation is appreciated
Note: No alcohol, dogs, firearms, coolers, or grills on park grounds

More ways to celebrate
Riverside block party at The Graceful Ordinary (St. Charles): The Fox River restaurant is hosting a Riverside Fourth of July Block Party in its back parking lot starting at 6:30PM. Pollyanna Brewing, Flagship on the Fox, and Duke's Northwoods will all be participating, with a kid's corner and a whole pig roast plus fixings available for purchase. Get details and tickets.
Kane County Cougars game (Geneva): Head to Northwestern Medicine Field for the Cougars' Fourth of July/250 Celebration. Gates open at 5PM and there's a big post-game fireworks show. The first 1,500 fans receive a George Washington Bobblehead. Get details and tickets.
Concert on the 1st Street Plaza (St. Charles): The Fox Valley Concert Band performs patriotic music on the 1st Street Plaza from noon to 1PM on July 4 as a free, family-friendly way to kick off the day.
Herring Breakfast at Batavia VFW (Batavia): A Batavia tradition since 1904, the annual Herring Breakfast returns on July 4 at the Batavia VFW. Admission is $17; drinks sold separately. Proceeds benefit the Batavia Food Pantry and Illinois Burn Camp. Get the details.

Police enforcement reminder
The Kane County Sheriff's Office is running a three-week traffic safety campaign through July 6, with officers focused on impaired and unbuckled drivers. Plan ahead and designate a driver if you're planning to enjoy some drinks.
