Anyone interested in shaping St. Charles' parks, trails, and recreation programs has a new window to throw their hat in the ring.
The St. Charles Park District Board announced that three four-year Commissioner seats will be on the ballot for the April 6, 2027 consolidated election, and the paperwork process to get on that ballot starts this month.
Here's what to know:
Packets available soon: Prospective candidates can pick up election information packets starting August 18 at Baker Community Center, 101 S. Second St. in St. Charles, during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8AM to 4PM).
Petition window opens Aug 25: Candidates can start circulating nominating petitions that day, with a filing deadline running from November 16 at 8AM to November 23 at 5PM, also at Baker Community Center.
Unpaid, but hands-on: Commissioners don't get paid for the four-year term, but they're expected to serve on committees, attend two to three meetings a month, and act as liaisons to local nonprofits and community groups.
Residency required: Candidates must live within the St. Charles Park District boundaries to qualify.
Anyone weighing a run is encouraged to talk to an attorney about the specifics, and more general election guidance is available through the Illinois State Board of Elections.
