Spring gardening season kicks into another gear this weekend with three plant sales happening across Batavia and Elburn. Whether you're after hanging baskets, native plants, or veggies and herbs, there's something for just about every kind of gardener.
Here's what to know:
Batavia Lions Club: The Lions Club is holding its 44th annual plant day this Friday and Saturday. Locally grown hanging baskets are $30 each; a nice pick-up ahead of Mother's Day on Sunday (5/10).
On Friday (5/8), the sale runs 5–8PM at the corner of Wilson and Water Streets. On Saturday (5/9), baskets are available at four Batavia locations from 9AM until 2PM or sellout:
Wilson & Water Streets
Wilson & Prairie Streets
750 Main Street
A roaming wagon through 14th Colony and Cherry Park
Cash, check, and card all accepted. All proceeds go toward Lions Club philanthropy projects for Batavia residents.
Batavia Plain Dirt Gardeners: The Plain Dirt Gardeners are holding their annual plant sale on Saturday (5/9) from 9AM–noon at Bethany Lutheran Church in Batavia.
Plants come directly from members' own gardens and include natives, perennials, shrubs, and trees. Master Gardeners will be on hand to field questions and help you figure out what actually belongs in your yard.
Heritage Prairie Farm : If you're planning a vegetable or herb garden, Heritage Prairie Farm in Elburn is running its annual Organic Transplant Sale on Saturday (6/9) and again the following Saturday (5/16). All transplants are USDA certified organic, with typical offerings including tomatoes, peppers, kale, lettuce, and herbs.
Three sales in two days make for one good weekend to get the garden going.
