The Arcada Theatre in St. Charles is celebrating its 100th anniversary on Sunday (9/6) with a full day of events, including a parade through downtown and appearances from Chubby Checker and Priscilla Presley.
Since first opening its doors on Sept. 6, 1926, the theatre has hosted everything from silent films and vaudeville acts to popular national touring shows. This weekend marks the latest chapter in its storied history.
Here's what to know:
Day starts with a meet-and-greet: At 1PM, Priscilla Presley hosts a "behind the scenes" meet-and-greet experience in the theater's Studio 64.
The parade: The Arcada Centennial Parade runs through downtown St. Charles starting at 3PM, starting just west of the Fox River and proceed past the theatre. The theatre’s event listing says "we’ll party like Ferris Bueller.”
Evening show celebrates the venue's music history: At 6PM, "The History of Rock 'N Roll" concert will close out the day with a celebration of live music at the Arcada over the past century.
A window exhibit runs alongside the festivities: The St. Charles Municipal Building, across the street from the theater, will feature a special exhibit on the Arcada's history in its front windows.
President & CEO Ron Onesti has also been handing out "Arcada Theatre Legacy Awards" to bands with long histories at the venue, and more of those presentations are expected as part of the day's programming.
