Fox River watershed features streams, creeks and rivers that support a wealth of aquatic wildlife — not to mention a variety of local lakes.
The Forest Preserve District of Kane County has launched a “Creek Exploration Series” as a way to help residents discover these unique riverine systems.
The series kicks off with “Fascinating Lives of Freshwater Mussels,” scheduled for Wednesday, June 19 at Tyler Creek Forest Preserve located in Elgin.
The series also features “Crazy 4 Crayfish,” offering a closer look at the different types of crayfish native to Illinois, at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve in St. Charles. The first session will be held on Tuesday, July 16, with another scheduled for Thursday, July 18.
Youth kayak fishing
In addition to the creek exploration series, the forest preserve is running a kayak fishing program for kids entering grades 6-12. The program will help youth learn the art of fishing from a kayak or refine existing angling abilities.
These sessions will take place June 27 in Aurora, July 17 in Big Rock and July 30 in Elburn.
