A beloved St. Charles theater institution has closed, and a new one focused on young performers is rising in its place.

Steel Beam Theatre, which operated for 24 years, has shut down. Following an email inquiry, the city of St. Charles confirmed to Tri-Cities Central that the venue will now be known as The Fox Youth Stage.

Here's what to know:

  • Steel Beam's storied run: In a social media post, the theater announced it has "lowered its final curtain" after more than two decades of performances in the St. Charles arts community.

  • A new chapter for the stage: The Fox Youth Stage has taken over the venue with a mission focused on youth theater programming — nurturing creativity, confidence, and a love for the arts in young performers across the Fox Valley.

  • What to expect: The organization plans year-round youth programming as its primary focus, with occasional "after dark" shows for adult audiences as well.

The Fox Youth Stage's board includes both returning Steel Beam members and new members working to bridge the theater's legacy with its new direction.

No upcoming shows are yet listed on its website, but the theatre is actively promoting auditions for an upcoming youth production of “Seussical.”
