Earlier this month, a panel of six local Vietnam veterans visited St. Charles North to share their stories with students in American Studies and Modern American History classes.
The panel gave these high school students — who have been learning about the Vietnam War this semester — a chance to hear firsthand accounts from people who experienced the conflict. After a brief presentation from each veteran, students engaged in a Q&A session to learn more about the presenters and their perspectives.
Duane Buttell, Mike Johns, Joe Morgan, Mike Pikulyk, Ron Sassano, and Jake Wyatt served as panelists.
This event was coordinated by St. Charles VFW 5036. The organization works to ensure that veterans are respected for their service, receive their earned entitlements and are recognized for the sacrifices they and their loved ones have made on behalf of this country.
If you or a local service veteran you know is interested in joining the VFW, you can learn more here. Follow their Facebook page to keep up to date with their community activities.
