The St. Charles Fire Department announced that its annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will be held at 7:30AM on Friday, September 11, at the Fire Department Memorial Monument (2 E. Main St.), adjacent to the Municipal Building north parking lot.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The city said the outdoor ceremony provides an opportunity to reflect on the events of that day and the profound impact they had on the nation.

“As we mark this important anniversary, the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony gives us a chance to come together as a community to honor the lives lost and the countless lives forever changed by the events of that day,” said St. Charles Mayor Clint Hull. “Twenty-five years later, it is just as important as ever that we come together to remember and reflect.”

The event will include remarks from St. Charles Fire Chief Jeremy Mauthe, the posting of the Fire Department Memorial Flag, placement of a memorial wreath, and a moment of silence.

“This annual ceremony gives us an opportunity to honor the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel and all those who answered the call on 9/11, and to carry their legacy forward for future generations,” said Chief Mauthe.

The 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony is open to the public and will last approximately 20 minutes, rain or shine. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. In the event of heavy rain, the ceremony will be relocated to Fire Station No. 1, located at 112 N. Riverside Ave., St. Charles.

Parking is available in the Municipal Building’s north and south parking lots.
