Local volunteers will spend a Saturday morning in September clearing litter from the Fox River as part of a cleanup that's grown from 40 people to more than 100 in just a few years.
The River Corridor Foundation of St. Charles is hosting the Fox River Cleanup event Sept. 19 at Ferson Creek Park in partnership with the St. Charles Park District and The Conservation Foundation.
The cleanup is part of St. Charles' contribution to "It's Our Fox River Day," an annual event organized by Friends of the Fox River that brings river cleanups and celebrations to towns along the Fox River from Wisconsin down to Ottawa, Illinois.

Here's what to know:
When and where: The cleanup runs 9 to 11AM at Ferson Creek Park, with check-in starting at 8:30AM. Organizers encourage registering ahead of time.
Who can join: All ages and ability levels are welcome, though anyone under 18 needs to come with an adult.
What to bring: Trash bags and collection tools are provided. Volunteers should bring their own gloves. Kayakers and canoers are welcome to bring their own boats and help clear litter from harder-to-access islands and shorelines.
Some background: The cleanup started in 2019 with about 40 volunteers and drew more than 100 last year. Organizers are hoping to top that again this year. The River Corridor Foundation says the event is an opportunity for both community engagement and to raise public awareness of the trash that accumulates in our waterways.
