Members of the St. Charles Government Services Committee recommended approval of of a construction contract with Martam Construction for a new pedestrian crossing on Illinois Avenue, just west of the bridge.
Key points
The crossing, which will serve the Fox River Trail, was recommended in the city's 2023 Bike and Pedestrian Plan.
While the project came in over budget, officials said the additional costs will be covered using leftover funds from the under-budget Prairie Street project.
The city will also save money by handling construction engineering in-house instead of hiring a consultant.
The City Council will review for final approval at its May 8 meeting.
