Members of the St. Charles Government Services Committee recommended approval of of a construction contract with Martam Construction for a new pedestrian crossing on Illinois Avenue, just west of the bridge.

Key points

  • The crossing, which will serve the Fox River Trail, was recommended in the city's 2023 Bike and Pedestrian Plan.

  • While the project came in over budget, officials said the additional costs will be covered using leftover funds from the under-budget Prairie Street project.

  • The city will also save money by handling construction engineering in-house instead of hiring a consultant.

The City Council will review for final approval at its May 8 meeting.
