A new community tradition is set to begin in St. Charles this Memorial Day with the launch of the March of Honor, a group tribute walk honoring the more than 1,300 veterans buried in local cemeteries.
Organized by the St. Charles Veterans Center in partnership with American Legion Post 342, AMVETS Post 503, VFW Post 5036, and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 693, the March of Honor invites residents of all ages to carry American flags and walk together in remembrance during the city's annual Memorial Day Parade.
Participants are asked to gather by 9AM on Monday, May 26, at 6th and Walnut Streets (with parking available at Thompson Middle School). The parade will begin at 10:00AM, and those joining the March of Honor should inform parade marshals upon arrival.
Important note: Each participant must bring their own American flag — flags will not be provided.
Organizers hope the March of Honor becomes an annual show of unity and gratitude. As Parade Coordinator Mark Powell put it: “Let’s come together as a community to honor the fallen.”
