The St. Charles Park Board cut the ribbon on a new 18-hole disc golf course at Prairieview Pointe Park on Tuesday evening, capping a multi-year effort to bring a more challenging disc golf option to the area.

The course sits on former farmland off Route 38 and is open from dawn to dusk daily, weather permitting.

Here's what to know:

  • Location: Prairieview Pointe Park is on Route 38 across from Brundige Road in St. Charles, an 88-acre parcel the park district obtained through a multi-year lease with the state. Laura Rudow, superintendent of parks and planning, described it as a low-cost way to grow the district's park inventory.

  • More than 18 holes: The course was designed with two baskets at every hole, giving players the option to play a standard round or take on 36 configurations total. "I see this being a regional attraction," Rudow said in a release. "You can play 18 or, with two options on each hole, play 36."

  • More options to meet demand: The park district has a 9-hole course at James O. Breen Community Park that experienced disc golfers have called a beginner layout. Prairieview Pointe features longer fairways, more varied terrain, and a dedicated practice area for players to use before or after a session.

  • Accessibility and amenities: The first six holes are ADA accessible. The build-out also includes a gravel parking lot and walking trails connecting to the course.

A professional disc golf architect helped design the course following two community input sessions in 2024 that gathered feedback from both disc golfers and general park users. Construction began in 2025 after the bid was awarded last May.
