The St. Charles Area Chamber of Commerce held its 58th annual Charlemagne Awards dinner May 1 at Royal Fox Country Club, recognizing standout volunteers, leaders, and community projects from across the area.

According to Shaw Local, the gala drew a crowd of community members, city staff, and local leaders for an evening of recognition.

Here's what to know:

  • Top honor for Harrison Schneider: The 84-year-old former educator and associate superintendent of the Kane County Regional Office of Education took home the Charlemagne Award (the evening's highest prize) for decades of youth development work through Kiwanis, the Renaissance Foundation, and Fox Valley Presbyterian Church in Geneva.

  • LEAP Award for Alderperson Jayme Muenz: Muenz was recognized for her leadership and community advocacy through the City Council, the St. Charles Women's Club, the 708 Mental Health Board, and the St. Charles Education Foundation.

  • Civic Image Awards recognized two projects: Economic development coordinator Derek Conley was honored for his work on the Charlestowne Mall redevelopment and former police department feasibility study. Kayla's Hope Foundation received recognition for its "Hope Mural" at Main Street and Route 31, focused on reducing mental health stigma.

The Chamber has now hosted the awards for 58 consecutive years.
