St. Charles City Clerk-elect Susan Hanson has declined to take office after winning an uncontested race in the April 1, 2025, Consolidated Election. Hanson ran unopposed after former City Clerk Nancy Garrison chose not to seek another term.

Since the election, Hanson has relocated outside of St. Charles city limits and has not formally withdrawn her candidacy but has indicated she will not assume the role. Hanson was not present during the May 5 Swearing-In Ceremony or the first meeting of the newly seated City Council, immediately following.

In accordance with municipal procedure, Mayor Clint Hull will appoint a qualified individual to fill the City Clerk position. The vacancy will be officially declared during the May 19 City Council meeting. Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest and resume to Deputy Clerk Marzena Sheets at [email protected]. Qualified applicants must reside within the corporate limits of the city of St. Charles.

Further updates will be provided by the City as the appointment process progresses.

Press release provided by the City of St. Charles.
