Spirit of St. Charles Awards spotlight community standouts

City officials honored a local student, longtime volunteer, and historic business in a new program recognizing local people making an impact in the community.

The City of St. Charles kicked off a new tradition at Monday’s council meeting with the first round of Spirit of St. Charles Awards, a monthly spotlight on residents, youth, and businesses making a positive impact in the community.

Here’s what to know:

  • The new awards program is highlights people and organizations who help make St. Charles a great place to live.

  • The awards will be presented at the first City Council meeting of each month, beginning with Ward 1 and continuing through Ward 5. The cycle will repeat once, concluding in April 2026.

  • July’s recipients were all from Ward 1, including a student athlete, a longtime civic volunteer, and a legacy local company.

Award winners:

Nate Molen: The inaugural youth award went to Nate Molen, a soon-to-be senior at St. Charles East High School, standout baseball pitcher, academic achiever, and Eagle Scout candidate. Council members praised Molen’s well-rounded contributions and dedication both on and off the field.

Steve Martin: Longtime resident Steve Martin was recognized for decades of volunteer service, including his behind-the-scenes work as chief marshal for the city’s holiday parades. Martin, a St. Charles High School grad and former banker, thanked his parents and wife for inspiring his civic spirit.

Dukane Corporation: Headquartered on Kirk Road, Dukane Corp. was honored as the business recipient. With roots in St. Charles dating back to 1922, Dukane has contributed to local industry, education, and innovation for over a century. The St. Charles headquarters employs over 200 people.
