With winter weather rolling in, it’s worth knowing how Batavia, Geneva, and St. Charles handle snow removal and regulate parking — and when you’ll need to move your car to avoid tickets or towing.
Here’s what to know across the Tri-Cities:
Batavia: Street parking is prohibited during or after a snowfall of 2 inches or more. The ban stays in place until streets are cleared or 24 hours after the snow ends, whichever comes first.
Geneva: Parking bans kick in at 2 inches on posted snow routes (main roads and higher-speed streets) and 3 inches on residential streets and alleys. The city can also trigger bans ahead of time if hazardous weather is forecast.
St. Charles: Plowing begins after 1.5 inches of snow when 2 inches or more is forecast. Snow route parking bans start one hour after 2 inches accumulate, and a citywide ban begins one hour after 3 inches or more with plowing underway. Vehicles can be towed if left on restricted streets.
For all three cities: Residents should keep garbage bins, shoveled snow, and parked cars out of the way to help crews clear streets efficiently.
If snow is in the forecast, it’s worth double-checking signs on your block and moving your car early.
