National Night Out hits the Tri-Cities on August 4, when several communities will host evening events centered around the annual community-building campaign.
The nationwide initiative promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie, aiming to both improve the relationship between cops and neighbors and make communities safer, more caring places to live.
Here's what to know:
Batavia: The Batavia Police Department is hosting its event at Peg Bond Center, 151 N. Island Ave. from 5-8PM with plenty of family activities.
Geneva: The city's second annual National Night Out runs 5-8PM at Geneva Middle School South, 1415 Viking Drive, with touch-a-truck, a dunk tank, kids' activities from the park district, a chance to meet police comfort dog Tommy, drone and helicopter demos, food, and a DJ.
St. Charles: The Kane County Sheriff's Office is running its event from 6-8:30PM at 37W755 IL Route 38, with emergency vehicles, music, drones, bounce houses, community info booths, and free food and food trucks while supplies last.
Campton Hills: The Campton Hills Police Department's event runs 5-8PM at the Congregational Church of Christ, 40W451 Fox Mill Blvd., with a helicopter from Superior Air Med, a 52-foot inflatable obstacle course, face painting, a magician, DJ Marianne, touch-a-truck, and more than 35 vendors and local businesses.
North Aurora: This one's neighborhood-based rather than a single venue; residents are asked to spend 5-9PM outside with neighbors and police officers.
Elburn typically holds its own National Night Out at the Elburn Lions Club, but details for this year haven't been announced yet. We’ll keep an eye out for an announcement.
