Independent Bookstore Day lands on Saturday, April 25, and Tri-Cities book lovers will have plenty of reasons to visit their neighborhood shops to mark the occasion.
Here's what to know:
Harvey's Tales, Geneva: The store is hiding a Golden Ticket worth 12 audiobook credits from Libro.fm for the first person to find it. Geneva author Adrienne Novy will sign copies of her debut poetry collection, "Good Luck in the Real World," from noon to 4PM. Trivia answers earn a free advance reader copy while supplies last, and a special "Turn the Paige" latte honors a departing team member's last day. Get more info.
Town House Books, St. Charles: The longtime indie shop (open since 1974) is raffling off a $100 gift certificate and offering free shipping on all online orders April 25-26. Town House is also part of a Chicagoland bookstore challenge: visit 10 participating stores in one day and earn 10% off at all of them for a year. Get more info.
The Book Shop, Batavia: Nothing special announced yet, but keep an eye on their social media this week for any Independent Bookstore Day plans.
All three shops are part of a shrinking but resilient network of independently owned bookstores across the Chicago suburbs. If you've been meaning to grab a new read, Saturday's a great opportunity.
