A nonprofit that’s quietly saved lives across the region is stepping into the spotlight this June — and inviting the community to do the same.
Suicide Prevention Services of America (SPSA), based in Batavia, is hosting its annual Run For LIFE! 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, June 7 at Laurelwood Park, with all proceeds going to support the organization's suicide prevention efforts.
Open to runners, walkers, families and fundraising teams, the event is about making mental health support more accessible to those who need it most. That begins with spreading awareness.
The mission behind the miles

Founded in 1998 by local advocate Stephanie Weber, SPSA has grown into one of just seven organizations nationwide offering a comprehensive suite of suicide prevention services — all from its headquarters in Batavia.
SPSA is a key partner in the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, providing 24/7 access to trained crisis specialists for anyone in emotional distress. But the work doesn’t stop at the phone line.
The organization also offers:
In-person counseling and depression screenings
Workshops, prevention training and school interventions
Support groups for those affected by suicide
Volunteer training for the 988 and local lifeline hotlines
A peaceful Memorial Garden to honor lives lost and provide a place of healing
Certified by the American Association of Suicidology, SPSA is both a local lifeline and a nationally respected leader in suicide prevention.
Its impact is deeply personal — and driven by community support.
Join the run. Support the work.
