Geneva has several infrastructure projects in motion this summer, including road resurfacing, parking lot improvements, and underground electric upgrades.
Here’s what residents should know:
Street and Parking Lot Construction
James Street (First to Second streets): Parking is temporarily unavailable on both sides as crews begin sidewalk and pavement work. The driveway behind City Hall will be closed June 30–July 1 for concrete work. The dropbox for utility bills behind City Hall will be inaccessible during these times. The James Street entrance to City Hall remains open via the Route 31 sidewalk wraparound.
Lewis Road: Milling is complete from Peck to Kaneville, and paving is underway through early July. Avoid street parking between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. when crews are active.
Hamilton Street Parking Lot (at North River Lane): Reconstruction is underway and expected to last through late July or early August. Portions of the lot will be closed intermittently.
Fargo Blvd & Northampton Drive: Concrete work is finished. Fargo now includes “sharrows” reminding drivers and cyclists to share the road.
Underground Electric Replacement (Starting in July)
The City is upgrading electric infrastructure in four areas, replacing underground cables, transformers, pedestals, and streetlights. Expect brief, scheduled power outages as homes are switched to new equipment. Advance notice will be provided.
Planned timelines:
South Harrison near Spring St: July 7–Aug. 18
James St (west of Ninth): Aug. 18–Sept. 8
2000 S. Batavia Ave: Sept. 9–26
James St (Third to Fifth): Sept. 27–Oct. 29
Project timelines may shift due to weather or other factors. Restoration work will follow construction.
