According to a post from the previous owners, the former home of Graham’s 318 Coffeehouse in downtown Geneva is set to embark on a new chapter, following its closure in spring 2024.

After more than a year of searching for the right tenant, the building’s owners — part of the Graham’s Chocolate family — have officially sold the space and are now passing the torch to a new team with fresh plans for the local spot.

  • The building will now be called The Kate at 318 (not to be confused with The James across the street).

  • Bread & Vine, a popular Galena-based restaurant, will open their second location in the space.

  • The new ownership group will also establish their offices upstairs, further embedding themselves in the Geneva community.

  • The Graham’s family, while sentimental about the closure, expressed gratitude for the support they've received and excitement about the future of the space.

Bread & Vine’s expanding concept

Opening in Geneva marks a notable expansion for Bread & Vine, the popular Galena-based bistro led by acclaimed chef and restaurateur Eric Bonnetain.

Known for blending classic French technique with a variety of global flavors, the restaurant’s eclectic menu will include everything from French pastries and macarons to ramen, tacos, and small plates. They also offer a curated wine and cocktail program.

The Geneva restaurant is one of the first three new franchises, with others planned in Tampa and the Boston area. More locations are being considered. The company launched in 2021, and it appears its future growth will be supported by a franchise program aimed at keeping the food, service, and atmosphere consistent across all locations.

Looking back

The Graham’s 318 coffeehouse underwent a major expansion in 2019 (including a second floor and outdoor patio), then reopened in February 2020 — only for COVID-19 to throw the world into turmoil three weeks later.

The family is now focused on the chocolate business, located nearby at 302 S. 3rd Street.
