During a recent Kane County Energy and Environmental Committee meeting, officials shared an update on how the county’s group-buy solar program is actually playing out for local residents.

The early results show steady participation, completed installations, and notable savings for homeowners who signed up.

  • Program participation: More than 1,300 Kane County households have registered for the Switch Together solar program, with 297 paying to move forward and 84 installations already completed.

  • Reported savings: Officials said participants have saved about $450,000 in total through group-buy project cost savings.

  • Local investment impact: The completed projects represent roughly $2.25 million in renewable energy investment across Kane County homes.

  • Beyond solar panels: A small number of households have also added home batteries and EV chargers as part of their installations.

County staff said more installations are already in progress, which suggests that participation and savings totals are expected to increase in the months ahead.
