Many treat Memorial Day weekend as the unofficial launch of summer — and there wil be no shortage of celebratory events here in the Tri-Cities.

The MMTT Youth Triathlon race​ (Sunday 5/26) and the American Legion Geneva Post 75's annual Memorial Day Parade​ (Monday, 5/27) will require temporary street closures.

The following streets will be shut down to traffic during the MMTT race, which will occur at the Delnor Hospital campus:

  • Williamsburg Avenue west of Randall Road

  • Fisher Drive north of Heartland Drive to Bricher Road

  • Bricher Road west of Camden Street to Peck Road

Starting at 10AM Monday, the American Legion Memorial Day Parade will kick off from the Geneva Train Station.

The procession will travel north on Third Street to the World War I Memorial in Wheeler Park, where a Memorial Day ceremony will be held.

Third Street (including the State Street intersection) will be closed during the parade. Parking will be prohibited on Third Street from Crescent to Stevens Street starting at 8AM.

St. Charles will also be holding a Memorial Day Parade on Monday. The schedule of events:

  • 6AM — Flag Raising and Cemetery Ceremonies: The ceremony will be held at Baker Community Center and feature an honorary gun salute and a flag procession led by Boy Scout Troops.

  • 7-9AM — Veterans Community Breakfast Fundraiser: A Community Breakfast Fundraiser will be hosted at Baker Memorial Church by St. Charles veterans.

  • 10AM — Parade Begins: Things will kick off at the corner of Main and 6th Street and proceed to Riverside Avenue.

  • 10:45AM — Memorial Service: A special ceremony will take place at the Freedom Shrine along the river.
