Geneva 5th Ward Alderperson Craig Maladra has announced his intention to step down at the end of September. Maladra, who has served on the City Council since 2003, cited a move to a new property outside the 5th Ward as the reason for his resignation.
The resignation will take effect after the September 30 council meeting, concluding Maladra's 21-year tenure.
Mayor Kevin Burns praised Maladra's service, highlighting his integrity, objectivity, and commitment to the community.
The City Council will begin interviewing candidates to step into the role as a replacement. The appointed individual will serve until the April 1, 2025 consolidated election.
