Kane County officials are taking steps to develop a new five-year strategic plan, the first such initiative since 2006.

This plan aims to create a roadmap for the county's future, addressing key areas of governance, community role, and priority setting.

They key points:

  • The County Board will vote on July 9 to seek proposals from consulting firms to help develop the plan.

  • The plan would establish county priorities and goals for the next five years, along with specific actions and timelines to achieve them.

  • The county will seek community input during the planning process, similar to the 2006 plan.

  • The new plan would integrate with existing initiatives, like the 2040 Plan and the Climate Action Implementation Plan.

  • Unlike the 2006 plan, this new strategy would be revisited every five years to ensure ongoing relevance.

Officials argue the plan is necessary to guide the county's future, regardless of current financial considerations.

The 2006 plan led to several major accomplishments, including the preservation of over 5k acres of farmland and a Riverboat Grant program that distributed millions of dollars to important community programs.
