The Kane County Board voted narrowly last week to keep the chairman's salary at $105,328 for the next four years, despite a committee recommendation to raise it to $130K.

However, the board approved a 20% raise for county board members to $30,000 annually starting in 2026. Several elected county officials like the recorder, clerk, coroner and auditor will also see salary increases.

The vote was divisive, with some arguing the raises were excessive given potential financial difficulties. Others felt higher pay could attract more candidates able to take time off work to serve.

The salary changes will apply to whoever wins the November elections for those positions. Read more about the vote here.
