Work needed at GHS. 📸 Credit: Geneva CUSD 304 Capital Improvement Plan
Geneva CUSD 304 is heading into an ambitious summer construction season with capital improvement projects set to begin June 1 at nearly every building in the district.
Operations Director Brian Pedersen presented the scope to the school board on April 27, covering what got done this past year and what's coming next. The work was previously approved at prior board meetings.
Here's what to know:
GHS is the biggest job site: The high school has six active projects, including replacement of the east parking lot and student drop-off area, eight tennis court replacements at Burgess Field, a greenhouse glazing system overhaul, masonry and roofing repairs, and more.
Mechanical work at middle schools: Geneva Middle School North is getting a full boiler plant replacement and new chilled water pumps. Middle School South is replacing an emergency generator that is 31 years old, upgrading fire alarms, and modernizing an elevator.
Elementary schools are in the mix, too: Mill Creek Elementary is getting masonry cleaning, an LED lighting upgrade, and a VAV valve replacement. Fabyan Elementary has mechanical piping repairs. Harrison Street Elementary is replacing domestic water heaters. Keslinger Bus Garage is getting a mechanic pit replacement.
The district flagged that vendors are coming back with cost increases of 5–10% on both labor and materials. Staff said they're trying to get ahead of that by increasing preventive maintenance cycles to catch problems before they require outside contractors.
