According to 2022 data from the CDC's National Health Interview Survey, about one in six U.S. adults actively practices yoga, up from just 5% of adults back in 2002.

That same year, Americans spent more than $21 billion on the practice, marking a 5% increase since 2016, according to a Yoga Alliance study.

And thanks to yoga’s multifaceted benefits — mental clarity, physical vitality, a sense of belonging — the practice’s popularity is showing no signs of slowing down. Which creates a need for passionate, qualified teachers.

Becoming a yoga teacher

Locally, Power Moves Yoga in St. Charles is addressing that growth with its 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training program, which starts on Sunday, October 11.

Led by expert studio owners and instructors Andrew and Crystal, the 14-week program is designed to transform every participant into a strong, knowledgeable, and effective teachers. Built to exceed the Yoga Alliance's certification standards, it pairs in-person class time with online coursework students can work on between sessions.

Teacher training isn't only for people planning to lead classes full-time. Some students come in to deepen a practice they've had for years, while others may want to test out a career change.

Either way, the course covers the fundamentals: gaining a deep understanding of yoga methods, developing the skills needed to deliver classes, and building lasting relationships with fellow trainees.

Power Moves Yoga has been leading this program since 2016, developing some of the best instructors around the area. It is the highest ranking yoga school in Illinois on Yoga Alliance with the most reviews. The program is offered every 18-24 months at the studio.

Registration for the fall cohort is open now through October 9. The program will run Fridays from 5:30-9:30PM and Sundays from 9AM-5PM through February 2027.

If you’ve been sitting on the idea of turning years on the mat into something more, this is the program that starts that process.

Power Moves Yoga is a premium yoga studio located in a brand-new space at 110 S 17th Street in St. Charles, IL. Power Moves Yoga is a sponsor of Tri-Cities Central.
