Officials in Geneva, Batavia, and St. Charles shared reminders about city office closures, garbage collection schedules, and when residents can set out live Christmas trees for pickup.
Holiday hours: City offices in all three communities will be closed on December 24 and 25 for Christmas, as well as January 1 for New Year’s Day.
Refuse collection: Garbage and recycling schedules will vary by city during the holiday weeks.
In Geneva, collection will be delayed by one day during the weeks of December 22 and December 29, with pickups occurring Friday and Saturday.
Batavia residents with Thursday or Friday service will also see their collection pushed back one day during those same weeks.
In St. Charles, garbage and recycling will be collected on the normal schedule with no holiday delays.
Christmas tree pickup is also approaching:
Geneva residents can set out live trees at no cost on their regular garbage days during the weeks of December 29 and January 5, after which a city waste sticker will be required.
Batavia will collect one live tree per household at no additional charge during the first two weeks of January on residents’ normal pickup days.
In St. Charles, free tree pickup with no sticker required will take place during the weeks of January 5 and January 12.
Residents in all three cities should place trees at the curb by 7AM on their scheduled pickup day and remove all decorations, including ornaments, tinsel, garland, hooks, nails, and tree stands. Trees placed in bags will not be accepted, and wreaths or roping should be disposed of in the regular trash.
