Volunteers with Friends of the Great Western Trail.

Without the Friends of the Great Western Trail and its team of dedicated volunteers, the 30-mile path after which the group is named wouldn’t be the safe and scenic gem it is today.

It takes the collective spirit of many communities to maintain the iconic trail. And if you’re so inclined, you’ll soon have an opportunity to contribute to that effort.

Just a few days after Earth Day, the Friends of the Great Western Trails will hold its annual trails cleanup event on Saturday, April 27 at 9AM.

The trail is divided into two sections:

  • The newer section runs 12.7 miles between Villa Park and West Chicago in DuPage County.

  • The older one runs 18 miles between western St. Charles in Kane County and Sycamore in DeKalb County.

This year’s event will target both sections of the trail. If you’re willing to roll up your sleeves, slap on some gloves and chip in some time, it will be a tremendous help to the volunteer effort.
