For now, the idea of allowing golf carts on Elburn’s streets has hit a dead end.
According to Shaw Local, after several rounds of debate, research and public input, the Elburn Village Board declined to move forward with an ordinance that would have legalized golf cart use on some local roads.
Here’s what to know:
A resident-driven petition with 582 signatures helped bring the idea forward, but concerns about major roads like Route 47 and Keslinger Road persisted.
Trustees and village staff cited public safety risks, particularly the danger of mixing golf carts with heavy traffic and truck routes.
The issue could return later this year, as a new slate of Village Board members will be sworn in at the May 5 meeting.
