After more than a decade in business, Geneva Wine Cellars and Tasting Room is preparing to close its doors.

Owner Al Buchanan shared that the shop will wind down operations due to ongoing financial challenges — and is hosting a final sale this weekend (Feb. 27-28) to clear out inventory.

I opened Geneva Wine Cellars and Tasting Room in 2013 with big dreams. Over the past twelve-plus years owning this business I have made so many friends and had so many wonderful experiences. I treasure all of them. It was a good run, but it is time for me to move forward with new challenges including my busy law practice.

Here’s what to know:

  • Final sale dates: The going-out-of-business sale runs Friday, February 27 and Saturday, February 28. All wines in the shop will be marked 20 percent off during the two-day sale.

  • Reason for closing: Buchanan cited declining sales over the past three years alongside rising expenses and broader industry factors affecting wine retailers nationwide, such as reduced wine consumption due to health concerns and increased cannabis use.

  • 12 years in town: The shop opened in 2013 and has served the Geneva community for more than 12 years.

Buchanan invites longtime customers and locals to stop in one last time before the shelves are cleared.
