After earlier uncertainty about whether it would happen at all, the Swedish Days Parade returned to downtown Geneva on Sunday.

The event was smaller than years past, but very much alive thanks to a coalition of local businesses that stepped up to ensure the tradition continued in 2026.

Here's what to know:

  • Grand marshal: Martha Sanchez of State Street Jewelers led the parade as this year's grand marshal. Sanchez is a 50-year employee of the Third Street jewelry shop and the 2025 recipient of the Geneva Chamber's Wood Award.

  • The route: The parade stepped off from Center Street and Anderson Boulevard and followed its traditional downtown route, featuring the American Legion Honor Guard, the South Shore Drill Team, local bands, community organizations, and local businesses.

  • The rescue team: State Street Jewelers served as presenting sponsor, joined by INLURO, Liz and Kate Boutique, Urban Artisan, The Royal Wren, Blinka Optical, Geneva History Museum, and Wealth Wave as organizers and co-sponsors. Additional financial support came from more than a dozen local organizations including The Little Traveler, Stockholm's Restaurant and Brewery, and Waubonsee Community College.

In a release, the organizers thanked all parade participants, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters for collaborating to make this year’s event possible.

The parade's future beyond 2026 hasn't been announced, but Sunday's turnout suggests the community’s passion for the tradition remains strong.
