The Geneva Chamber of Commerce is hitting pause on its annual grand Parade — the traditional finale of Swedish Days — for 2026.
In a news release, the Chamber said the break is a chance to rethink the event and come back with something more community-centered.
Here's what to know:
The parade won't happen this June: The Grand Parade, a longtime fixture at the end of Swedish Days, is skipping 2026 entirely. The Chamber didn't cite a specific reason beyond wanting time to reimagine what the event could be.
Something new is replacing it: On what would have been parade Sunday, the Chamber is planning family-friendly events in downtown Geneva — designed to feel more intimate and centered on the downtown corridor.
Swedish Days itself continues: The broader festival (food, entertainment, activities, the usual) isn't going anywhere. The pause is parade-specific.
The goal is long-term: Community input gathered this year is expected to shape what the parade (or its replacement) looks like in 2027 and beyond.
“In honoring the strong tradition of the Swedish Days Parade, we also recognize the importance of evolving wisely,” said President Paula Schmidt of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. “Taking a pause allows us to reimagine a Swedish Days’ experience that is more reflective of the heart of our local community.”
